Did you know that renowned astronomer, Carl Sagan, was a professor at Cornell Universuty and a prominent member of the Ithaca community?

Through teaching, writing, documentaries and tv programs, he helped educate and fascinate millions. His unique brand of science education and support of the Sciencenter inspired the Sagan Planet Walk project. The Sagan Planet Walk is a 3/4 mile self-guided walking tour of our solar system, at 1/5 billionth size.

The model starts with the sun at the center of the Downtown Ithaca Commons and travels around the planets. Each station offers interesting fun facts and recent discoveries. Information is kept current with assistance from students and researchers at Cornell.

The Sciencenter offers an official Sagan Planet Walk passport that can be stamped at each station. A free audio guide is available and narrated by Bill Nye the Science Guy!

The Sagan Planet Walk is also one of the attractions on the Ithaca Discovery Trail.
